A National Ministry Moves Toward Self-sufficiency

09/14/2011

In India, we see exciting trends among the national believers and their concern to reach their own people.

  • Young individuals in India are getting involved.  They support WCOI financially with one time or monthly gifts.  These young people tend to be tech-savvy and are very aware of the impact that technology can have on the mission field. Mission trips are being organized by WCOI so these young people can participate in the work in remote areas.  This helps them go one step further than just giving money for a projectIndia ladies with players
  • Churches have begun raising money for WCOI for language recordings.  One of the big supporting churches is a slum church in the city of Bangalore.  Recently they donated enough money to fund the recording of a New Testament in NE India.
  • This year over 20% of the total budget is funded locally.  WCOI is hoping to see support go up to 25% in the coming year.  This is significant, because for decades, local funding hovered around 2%.

The unique niche that we are occupying in India is now being noticed and appreciate.  We are excited to see local churches and individuals taking ownership of this.
