For the first time ever, people near the remote fishing village of Moma in Northern Mozambique are hearing God's Word in their heart language. In May, ASM missionary Chad V. and director of ECDV(Estudio Coroa da Victoria, Sergio M., traveled to that area and distributed 100 audio Bibles in the Makua language. The team traveled down rough gravel roads for 4 hours before turning onto a narrow two-track for another 15km into the bush. When they arrived, it was already dark and pouring rain. They didn't expect anyone to be waiting. But they were wrong.
Chad V writes; "As we rolled to a stop, people abandoned the relative dry of the houses and converged on our vehicle with a joyful song and dance. They were excited to have visitors and even more excited at the prospect of receiving God's Word in audio." 40 audio
Bibles were distributed to the dozens that had gathered there. Then the team spent the night inside the tiny little thatch building that served as a church, but they didn't get much sleep.
Chad continues; "Many of the people who gathered and received audio Bibles were so excited to listen that they didn't want to go home or sleep. All through the night we were accompanied by a chorus of Makua voices reading Scriptures from the audio Bibles as people gathered in the dark to listen."
The next day the team distributed the rest of the 100 audio Bibles which were not nearly enough for the crowd that had gathered. Many people desiring God's had to be turned away empty handed. Later that day, after an early morning baptism service at a nearby river, they attending a service in the little thatch roof church.
It was soon apparent that the tiny little church couldn't hold the crowd that gathered so the service was moved outside. The church that normally has 20 people on a typical morning had more than 100 gather. During the service as simple question was asked, "How many people here own Bibles?". Only two hands were raised. That was followed by the question of "How many people here now have audio Bibles?". In response nearly every hand was raised! For most people, this is the first time they have ever had access to God's Word!
