Operation Awaaz

Awaaz is the Hindi word for "voice".

It is the name adopted for a project at Northwestern College, in Orange City, Iowa. Two representatives from the college met with JP Sundararajan, ASM India-Asia NWC Director, while they were on a visit to India. Upon returning to the U.S., they encouraged the college to partner with ASM in the area of missions. In JP's words...

"a group of students was given the task to come up with creative ways to challenge the student body on campus. I sent them a list of languages that awaited recording of audio Scriptures. From that list, the team selected the Vasavi language, largely due to it's number of speakers, and the low literacy rate in the region and language. This tribe lives scattered along the banks of the Tapi river in the state of Gujarat in India.

ASM Celebrates 40 Years!

ASM 40thIn October 2007, ASM celebrated the 40th Anniversary of God’s Faithfulness. We looked back as Dr. Ron Beery narrated a video of the beginnings and growth of the ministry. Our present ministry report and future focus brought us to India. We heard about God’s great work in this country, and why the Ministry center is so important at this time. The India Ministry Center fund received $ 23,000 from gifts that evening.

Small Group - Big Need

It was a last minute arrangement. The call came from a missionary in the West Michigan area who wanted some help understanding digital recording and playback equipment.

We listened to the description of the work being done in this African area. We answered questions about the various kinds of digital Scripture players and details about either obtaining the players or preparing materials to go in them.

A "Real" Crank

After nearly 30 years of production the TapeTalk hand-wind cassette players are still in demand in many places. Now, God has graciously provided replacement handles for the players. We have found that despite instruction, many people in rural and poor areas still have difficulties understanding how to operate the hand-crank part of the player.

Digital Details

There are a number of different digital Scripture players currently available which share a common need. Audio files need to be divided in specific sections so a digital player can play them correctly. All previously recorded Scriptures have to be 're-processed' for use in the new wave of digital players. That is why ASM is providing, free of charge, the processing of audio Scripture media for use in digital players.
